Highlights of Adelaide
Kangaroo Island is located 112 Kilometers southwest of Adelaide. It is easy to make a day trip to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide or make a longer trip and stay on Kangaroo Island for a few days. Kangaroo Island is the 3rd largest island off the coast of Australia behind Tasmania and Melville Island.
Kangaroo Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Australia. There are heaps of things to see and do on Kangaroo Island. There is heaps of native Australian wildlife like Kangaroos, Wallabies, Koala, Emu, Echidnas, Possums, Fairy penguins, Sea lions and Fur seals.
The Remarkable Rocks Kangaroo Island
The Remarkable Rocks are some amazing rock formations found within the Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island. The rock formations are granite rocks which was formed 200 million years ago with volcanic lava being pushed up through the ground. The granite has since been eroded by wind and sea to form the amazing shapes you see today.
Admirals Arch at Kangaroo Island
Admirals Arch is a naturally land bridge found at Cape de Couedic in the Flinders Chase National Park. There is a board walk which takes you down the Cape and down steps to see Admirals Arch. Along the board walk you will be able to see some New Zealand Fur Seals laying in the sun or playing in the waters.
Also at Cape de Couedic is the Cape de Couedic Lighthouse which was completed in 1909 after many a ship had sunk off the coast of Kangaroo Island. The Lighthouse originally had occupants living there to operate the lighthouse though it was fully automated in 1957.

Sea Dragon Lodge is located in Pink Bay Kangaroo Island with accommodation starting from $200 per couple per night in the low season (1st May - 31st August), $300 per night in the mid season ( 1st September - 23rd December) and $400 per couple per night in the high season (24th December - 31st January)
Southern Ocean Lodge offers luxury lodge accommodation. The accommodation is in a secluded location on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Wildlife on Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island has some unique wildlife. As the island has been separated from the mainland for hundreds of thousands of years the wildlife has developed and formed unique species. There are are a sub species Western Gray Kangaroo sometimes called the Kangaroo Island kangaroo as it is a different species to the Western Gray Kangaroo found on the mainland.
You can see the Australian Sea Lions up close at the Sea Bay Conservation Park. You are guided onto the beach by a park ranger where you can view the Sea Lions from a safe distance. Sometimes the Sea Lions will come up very close to check out the tourists.

Hanson Bay Wildlife Park Kangaroo Island
At Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary you can see a number of different species of animals including the Koala, Tammar Wallabies, Kangaroos, Bats, Echidna and Possum. There are also a number of bird species you will see at the sanctuary including Gallah, Cape Barron Goose, Australian Magpie, Rainbow Lorikeet and Crimson Rosella.
Kangaroo Island Produce
As well as the normal farming like cattle, sheep, wheat and grains there are some specialised items that is made on Kangaroo Island including honey and eucalyptus oil.
You can make a visit to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus and Craft Gallery and see how the Eucalyptus oils if produced and distilled.
Island Beehive is located on the main road at Kingscote and sells organic honey. Open 9am - 5pm everyday except Xmas Day.
Clifford's Honey Farm is located at 1157 Elsegood Road Haines Kangaroo Island. Selling Honey, mead, candles and cosmetics. Open 7 days a week from 9am - 5pm except Xmas Day.

Dudley Wines has been making wines on Kangaroo Island since 1997.
Cape d'Estaing Wines specialise in Cabernat Sauvignon and Shiraz wines.
Bay of Shoals Wine located just north of Kingscote make a range of wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Rose, Sparkling Rose, Moscato Rielsing, Cabarnet Sauvignon

Getting to Kangaroo Island
Sealink operate a ferry across to Kangaroo Island which leaves from Cape Jervis. You can drive your car onto the ferry to take it with you across to Kangaroo Island. Sealink Ferries leave everyday with 2 ferrys crossing in the morning at 9am and 10am and 1 ferry returning in the evening at 7.30pm. See the Sealink Ferry Timetable.
Bus Tours to Kangaroo Island
Sea Link Tours have bus tours that pick you up from your hotel in Adelaide, take across in the ferry and a bus takes you around Kangaroo Island to see all the sites listed on the page. Sea Link organise 1, 2 and 3 day guided tours of Kangaroo Island. The 1 day tours leave Adelaide early at around 6am and return you to your hotel around 10.30pm.
